Marine Radio SRC
All VHF users are required by law to hold an operator's licence, called the Short Range Certificate (SRC).
The one-day SRC course gives an overview of the whole Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (GMDSS), with detailed coverage of VHF and Digital Selective Calling usage.
The course includes practical work on VHF/DSC training sets , with a maximum of 3 students per set.
Assessment is through practical exercises and a short written test.
A small amount of preparation, in advance of the course, is recommended. This includes learning the phonetic alphabet.
On the day students will need to bring payment for the licence fee, £25, plus a passport-sized photograph (not Polaroid).
Holders of the old licence (VHF Only) can upgrade to SRC in a half-day conversion course.
