The RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Theory course is an advanced course for those wishing to skipper a yacht on longer coastal passages, or work towards taking the RYA Coastal Skipper or RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Exams.
The course is intensive, covering advanced navigation techniques including - position fixing, course shaping and plotting, tidal knowledge and use of almanacs. Admiralty publications and electronic position finding equipment. The course also covers meteorology and includes the taking and interpretation of forecasts, plotting of weather systems and weather prediction using barometer and by observation.
Students are shown how to use this information when planning and executing passage plans. The International Regulations for Prevention of Collision at Sea are dealt with in detail.
During the course students will sit three exam papers.
